HULL
REPAIRS

Whether it's impact damage, blistering or structural repairs, LBM Fibreglass restores your hull to a watertight, long-lasting finish across Brisbane and South-East Queensland.

Restoring Your Hull
to Peak Condition

Your hull takes more punishment than any other part of your boat. Ramp launches, trailer pressure, dock scrapes, reef contact, it adds up. And fibreglass, as tough as it is, isn't bulletproof. Once the gelcoat gets breached, water starts working its way into the laminate layers underneath. From there it's a slow burn, osmosis, blistering, delamination, and what could've been a straightforward repair becomes a much bigger job.

We fix fibreglass hull damage at our Brisbane workshop, from minor gelcoat chips to full structural repairs. Every job gets a proper assessment, an up front quote, and a finish that's polished to a seamless result.

What We Fix

Impact and collision damage
Stress cracks and crazing
Osmotic blistering
Gelcoat chips, scratches and fading
Structural hull damage
Waterline and below waterline repairs
Ramp and trailer damage
Delamination

Our Approach to Hull Damage

A small crack might not look like much, but once the gelcoat is breached, water gets straight into the laminate underneath. Osmotic blistering is a separate, slower issue: gelcoat is semi-permeable, so on a boat that spends long stretches in the water, moisture gradually works its way through even an intact surface, reacts with compounds in the laminate, builds osmotic pressure, and forms blisters. Warm water and prolonged immersion are what really accelerate it.

The good news is that caught early, hull repairs are straightforward and relatively affordable. Left too long, you're looking at full hull restoration work, barrier coat application, and serious remediation work. Getting on top of it early just makes sense.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my hull damage is structural or just cosmetic?
Surface chips and shallow cracks are usually cosmetic. If the crack runs deep, there's flex or softness around the damaged area, or you notice water inside the hull, it's likely structural. We'll assess it properly and give you a straight answer.
Can you match my hull finish?
Yes, finishing and blending is one of our specialties. We colour-match the gelcoat as closely as possible, accounting for any weathering or fading, to blend the repair into the surrounding finish.
What's osmotic blistering and how do you fix it?
Osmosis happens when water penetrates the gelcoat and reacts with compounds in the fibreglass laminate, forming pressurised blisters under the surface. Fixing it properly means opening each blister, removing the residue, allowing the area to dry thoroughly, rebuilding the laminate in layers, and sealing with a quality barrier coat to greatly reduce the chance of recurrence.
How long does a hull repair take?
Timeframes vary depending on the extent of the damage. We'll give you a clear indication before we start so you know what to expect.
Can you handle insurance claims?
Yes, we work directly with insurers and can provide detailed damage reports, photo documentation, and accurate repair quotations to support your claim from start to finish.
